The Necklace
Do you ever feel like you’re not good enough? Everywhere you go there’s always someone better than you? That’s how Mathilde felt in the “The Necklace.” She made herself feel like she wasn’t good enough, and always wanted more. A very selfish person. Although she already had a good life, a great husband, enough money and a nice house she was never appreciative of it. When you’re always wanting more you’ll find out all the great things you already have will be gone too.
Mathilde was a very selfish girl. She only thought of herself, and no one else. When it came to money and gifts Mathilde needed to look and have the best things out there. When this happened never Mathilde really was grateful for the things she had that she misplaced a necklace she once had. Now that a necklace she thought was 40,000 dollars was gone, she was the one that had to pay for it. Back in the 1800’s that was a lot of money. Not many people had it, and because Mathilde replaced such a necklace they were going to do whatever they could to get the money. Mathilde became poor after that. Coming from a normal life to a worse life, Mathilde should have just been thankful for what she had in the first place.
For this story, I believe that the mode would be tragedy. It starts out as Mathilde not happy. She feels like she isn’t good enough, and everyone is better than her. Mathilde believes everyone has more money, better house, nicer clothes than her, and because she feels this she wants more. That’s when the problems comes in. When she goes to the ball she has to have the nicest dress there, also the most beautiful necklace that she borrowed but lost. When Mathilde loses the necklace that’s when the downfall comes into her life. They have to buy a necklace that they don’t have the money for, and having to do this just because Mathilde needed to look the best one there, they are now broke having to borrow money. In the end Mathilde is miserable and now even more upset with her life.
Although in the end Mathilde still wasn’t happy, it shows what can happen if you’re a greedy person. You’re not always going to get what you want, be the best/ richest person out there, but never compare yourself with other people it only makes you feel worse. That was Mathilde problem and as you can see, and because she did this she ruined her life. If she could have just been happy with what she had, Mathilde wouldn’t have been put into a situation of losing all her money and becoming worse that she already is.
Always wanting more and being a jealous person will never get your far In life. As you can see from what happened from Madame Mathilde life. You need to just except the good things in life instead of always being down and feeling bad about yourself. With always wanting more you’ll figure out that not being grateful of the things you have you could lose them too.
